Police still hunting masked machete attackers

Police are still hunting two masked assailaints who hacked at a man's hands and legs with a machete at a house in Wigan.

Detectives today appealed for any information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the thugs who struck at between 8.15pm and 8.30pm on Tuesday.

The victim was left traumatised and bleeding profusely in the vicious onslaught at an address in Patterdale Road, in the Land Gate area of Ashton on Tuesday evening.

The 51-year-old, named locally as David Marsh, was one of five people in the house when a car pulled up outside and the two assailants wearing balaclava masks forced their way inside.

Four of the terrified occupants managed to escape, but the victim was cornered and repeatedly slashed with the razor-sharp weapon.

The attackers then made their getaway in the vehicle, whose make and registration are currently unknown.

Police say are treating this as an isolated incident and inquiries are ongoing.

Det Insp Matt Bailey-Smith said: “I would like to appeal to members of the public who may have witnessed what has taken place or anyone that may have information.

“With regards to this incident you can call police on 101 quoting incident number 2036 of January 31.
