Chris Green MP welcomes economic support for borough businesses

Bolton West & Atherton MP, Chris Green, has welcomed the unprecedented economic support delivered by the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, to protect jobs and businesses during the coronavirus outbreak.

The latest facts and figures for the Bolton West constituency set out that:

• 12,000 workers have been furloughed through the job retention scheme

• A further 3,100 claims were made to the Self-Employment Income Support scheme

• 1,975 additional people receiving welfare support since March

Commenting on the emergency financial package, Mr Green said: “This is undoubtedly a challenging time for many of my constituents and local businesses, which is why I am pleased that support is being provided to those that need it.

“It is now important that, as we move through the second phase of easing the lockdown, we begin to see a return to normality in order to begin the economic recovery.”

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, said: “Our economic response to coronavirus was designed to keep people in work, protect people’s incomes, and support businesses. These measures have been on a scale unmatched by any government in recent history. All to give us the best chance of recovering quickly as the economy reopens.
