Craters can be seen on a number of roads in Hindley Green areas of Leigh Road and Atherton Road, Pauline Street and Smiths Lane.

Some of the more common damage caused by potholes is a flat tire or damage to your tires, bent or damaged rims, suspension damage, steering damage and even damage to the body of the car.

Potholes can even knock your car out of alignment so it will affect the way the tires wear and can lead to replacing tires before earlier than expected, coming at a lot of cost for motorists.

The state of the roads has prompted Coun John Vickers to ask the council for them to be resurfaced.

And he has been told that tenders will be put out in the New Year to resurface the roads.

He is hopeful that work should be done by summer next year.

Coun Vickers said: “I have been informed this morning that tenders will be put out in the to New Year to resurface Leigh Road from Atherton Road down to the anti-skid surface at Pauline Street, as well as Leigh Road from the other side of the anti-skid surface down to Smiths Lane.

“Also to be done is Taylor Road from where the road has previously been resurfaced down to Severn Drive and the area at the roundabout at Close Lane/Winsmoor Drive down to Park Road.

“These are all areas I have asked to be resurfaced previously.”

“I have asked that parts of Swan Lane are looked at also, particularly the area on the bend near Athol Crescent.
