Town centre street closed due to 'dangerous' building
An emergency road closure for Elliott Street, in Tyldesley, was issued this morning (February 2).
Wigan Council made the decision due to concerns about the safety of a building on the street.

Hide AdThe authority said the building owner's had been asked to put up scaffolding to secure the building, and the road closure would remain until the work was complete.
The road is currently closed to traffic with diversions in place
The council tweeted: "Please be aware that an emergency road closure has been put in place due to a dangerous building in Elliott Street, Tyldesley. The closure has taken place to allow scaffolding to be erected and once the building is safe the road closure will then be lifted."
Coun Nazia Rehman, who represents Tyldesley ward, said: "This road closure will allow essential scaffolding to be constructed to safely support the front and gable walls of 146 Elliott Street.

Hide Ad"This building is in a dangerous condition and Building Control has been working with the private owner to require this urgent work to be carried out today, the work will enable the front and gable walls to be safely rebuilt over the next few weeks .
"Following the construction of the support scaffolding a footpath only diversion will remain in place."
