Potholed motorway roundabout will be repaired - but not yet

WIGAN motorists are complaining bitterly that the surface of the roundabout at the Standish turn-off of the M6 is breaking up so badly that vehicles will soon get damaged.

Months of rain have helped to accelerate the junction 27 pothole problems. But those with the responsibility to do something about it are aware of the problems.

Ridwan Musa, highways manager for Lancashire County Council, said: “We’ve already inspected the roundabout and are planning to repair the surface.

“It’s not easy to make repairs to such a busy section of road and, because it takes so much traffic and will need significant work to improve the surface, we will need to put traffic management in place.

“This will include organising slip road closures, motorway diversions, lane closures and overnight work to repair the damage.

“This needs careful planning and we have not yet finalised a date for the work.”
