Trade union Unison organised the event about WWL Solutions, which would employ 900 estates and facilities employees at the borough’s hospitals, at the Bellingham Hotel on Friday.

The union’s regional organiser Lizanne Devonport and Wigan MP Lisa Nandy, who has been strongly against the plan throughout the row, addressed the audience.

Campaigners against WWL Solutions were also out in Wigan town centre on Saturday where they were joined by Makerfield MP Yvonne Fovargue.

A board decision will be made on Wednesday but WWL chief executive Andrew Foster recently said he still favours the wholly-owned model.
