Resident pays the price for flytipping

A man has been hit with more than £800 in fines and costs after dumping household waste near his Up Holland home.

Wigan magistrates heard Adam Mitchell admitted depositing 12 binbags of rubbish in a ditch when interviewed by West Lancashire Council’s environmental enforcement officers.

Admitting fly-tipping, Mitchell, of Denshaw, Up Holland, was fined £300. Mr Mitchell was also ordered to pay £503.72 in costs to the council and a £30 victim charge, making a total of £833.72.

Coun Kevin Wright, portfolio holder for health and community safety, said: “The message sent out by this conviction is clear. West Lancashire Borough Council takes a hard line approach to fly-tippers and is committed to taking action against offenders wherever possible.”
