But in the end there could only be one winner, Redwood House Children’s Nursery in Orrell.

The nursery in Orrell Road picked up the prize yet again, having also triumphed in 2016.

After picking up the trophy, nursery manager Kate Edwards spoke of her pride at Redwood House being crowned yet again.

“We are over the moon,” she said.

“We weren’t expecting it because the competition is very steady.”

And what makes Redwood House so loved that readers voted for it to be Nursery of the Year?

“I think it’s because we are really focussed on the families,” Kate went on.

“It is a family-owned and family-run business, and the whole team works as one with family at the centre of everything that we do.”

The 36 staff take care of around 200 children throughout a typical week, and were just as overjoyed as Kate at the news of their success.

Kate said: “They are just thrilled, absolutely thrilled because we also won it last time. They are just really proud of themselves.

“It gives everyone a boost. We never advertise, so every family we get through the door is based on recommendation. So this will cement it when people say ‘go and look at Redwood’, that we are the best place to send your kids.”

Redwood House was opened in 1992 by Janet Edwards, with three staff members and a register of 19 children.

“Our growth has been down to recommendation from one parent to another. We now find that we are caring for the children of the original children that attended the nursery in 1992,” Janet said.

“We have an outstanding team at Redwood, many who have worked at the nursery for over 15 years and some much longer than that. I would like to say a huge thank you to these ladies - they are devoted to their role as nursery practitioners and are enthusiastic, caring and loyal.”
