Stab victim released from hospital

Police are continuing to investigate the incident which saw a number of men fighting in the Gas Street and Templeton Road area of Platt Bridge last Thursday, May 31.

Two men were left fighting for their lives after being stabbed.

And while one has since been released from hospital this week, police say the other remains in a serious condition.

Both Gas Street and Templeton Road were sealed off by officers last week as inquiries around the area were carried out.

It’s also believed that nearby pubs were asked to close after police arrived at the scene shortly after 7pm.

The group had dispersed shortly before they got there.

However, three were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and three men were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. All six people have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police enquiries are ongoing, and officers now believe that this incident occurred after a number of men were involved in a confrontation on Templeton Road, Platt Bridge, near to McDonalds.

Detectives believe the fight broke out when a Jeep type vehicle pulled up next to a group of men and another group got out of the car.

Earlier this week, Detective Inspector Martin Reddington from GMP’s Wigan division said: “We have been carrying out significant enquiries to establish what exactly has happened here that has led to two men lying seriously injured in hospital.

“We believe that a number of men were on Templeton Road, near to Gas Street and Lomax Street, when several other men have approached them in a dark Jeep type vehicle.

“There has then been a confrontation and this has resulted in two men suffering serious injuries, before both groups quickly dispersed prior to police arriving on the scene.

“I am asking for anyone that was in this area around the time of the incident, to please call us if you saw either of these groups of men, any vehicles, or if you saw the altercation itself?

“Your information may only seem trivial to you, but it could be an important part of our investigation, so please call us if you saw or heard anything that you think might be linked to this case.”
