A teenage motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash with a car.

The collision happened on Wednesday (June 24) at around 1.30pm in Newton Road in Lowton.

The incident has closed the road from East Lancashire Road to Hesketh Meadow Lane.

There is traffic on the approach to the road.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "An ambulance, advanced paramedic, air ambulance, rapid response vehicle and doctor attended the scene.

"A male patient in his late teens suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Salford Royal hospital."
