A judge said that although Liam King was 18 years old at the time he had sex with the girl, because of his learning difficulties and immaturity it brought their ages closer in one sense.

But Judge Stephen Everett said that it was still a serious case and the consequences had also been serious, particularly for the girl.

King, now 19, of Leopold Street, Pemberton, had pleaded guilty to three offences of sexual activity with a child between November 2014 and February 10 last year.

Andrew Ford, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that King had sexual intercourse with the girl on three occasions and she became pregnant and gave birth to their child last year when she was 14.

At the time of the offences he was subject to a youth rehabilitation order imposed for attempted robbery and he has other previous convictions.

Paul Treble, defending, said that King says that she was his girlfriend and she still wants him in her baby’s life.

But the court was told that was not reflected in a victim impact statement from the young mum.

Becoming pregnant so young had had a profound affect on her, said Mr Ford.

King was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for the next 10 years and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same period was also made against him by the judge.
