Trains stopped between Wigan and Bolton

Trains have been cancelled between Wigan and Bolton due to a points failure on the line.

The Northern Rail service between Hindley and Bolton has been stopped in both directions this morning (Friday).

The company has Tweeted advice to customers, saying: "Due to a points failure in the Lostock area, services are unable to travel between Wigan and Bolton in either direction.

"Services are to be diverted via Atherton until repair staff arrive on site to assess the damage, in some cases services will run as far as Bolton where they were terminate to form their return journey.

"Estimate for staff on site is approximately 12pm."

The rail giants are urging people to listen for PA announcements for further updates.

Trains are expected to be up and running by early afternoon.

Anyone who is delayed by more than 15 minutes is advised to keep hold of their tickets and claim compensation.
