Festival-goers travelling to Creamfields faced long delays on the M56 after a crash closed an exit slip road.

A “serious collision” closed the westbound exit slip road at junction 11 (Preston Brook) at around 12.10pm on Thursday (August 25).

The closure resulted in approximately six miles of congestion, with delays of 40 minutes reported on approach.

“If you’re heading [to] Creamfields please be aware,” a spokesman for National Highways said.

North West Motorway Police added festival-goers would need to continue to junction 12 (Rocksavage) to exit the motorway.

Creamfields – the UK’s biggest dance music festival – will welcome around 70,000 people to its site in Daresbury, Cheshire, from Thursday to Sunday (August 28).

The festival, which has sold out, will see big name acts such as Calvin Harris, Tiesto and David Guetta take to its stages to celebrate its 25th anniversary edition.

Fatboy Slim, Bicep, Idris Elba, Carl Cox, Armin van Buuren and Eric Prydz also feature in the four-day line-up.
