Wigan road closed after vehicle crashes into bridge

A main road had to be closed and buses diverted after a lorry hit a bridge.

The incident happened at around 9.50am on Thursday on Warrington Road in Ince.

A police spokesman said: "At around 9.53am this morning, police were called to reports of a vehicle that had collided with a bridge on Warrington Road, Wigan.

"Emergency services are in attendance."

Transport for Greater Manchester reported the road was shut in both directions between Richard Street and Orrell Street.

Bus services were being diverted via Darlington Street, Manchester Road and Ince Green Lane, according to operator Stagecoach.
