Two cars were involved in a crash near a fire station.

Fire crews were called to the scene near Atherton fire station after a smash involving a Renault Scenic and Peugeot 307.

The smash happened at around 2am on Saturday at the junction of Gloucester Street and Flapper Fold Lane.

Fire crews said the male driver of the Peugeot had ran off from the scene while the driver of the Renault, a man in his 40s, declined first aid.

Phil Dearden, crew manager at Atherton fire station, said: "One crew from Atherton attended the crash involving a Renault Scenic and Peugeot 307 on the junction of Gloucester Street and Flapper Fold Lane at around 2am.

"Both cars were damaged and the male driver of the Peugeot ran off from the scene.

"The other driver of the Renault, a man in his 40s, was offered first aid by the fire service but declined it.

"Our crews made the vehicles safe and left the scene."

Police attended the incident which they are now investigating.
