JSBeFit Gym, in Wigan, will hold the event which will see people enter and compete against the trainers to raise money for the former rugby league star.

The former England scrum-half revealed in December that he had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at the age of just 37.

Now the gym want to do their bit to help Burrow, who spent 16 years playing for Leeds Rhinos in the Super League.

Rachael Johnson, who works at the gym and has helped organise the event, said the “rugby league family” wanted to give something back to Burrow.

Rachel, who has been physio in the past at Leigh Centurions and Oldham Roughyeds, said: “Rob’s Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis is really sad and it was a real shock at the age he is.

“We want to give something back to him at the gym and as part of the rugby league family.”

Rachael said that all proceeds raised would go to Burrow.

She said: “People will compete in teams to try and beat the four trainers. They will be handicapped to make it fair.

“There will be four trainers dressed as gladiators, so they will be John and Sarah Bowland, Nathan Bevan and Hannah Rutter.

“It’s all a bit of fun and no fitness levels are required. This is all for a good cause.”

Leigh Centurions star Craig Mullen and head coach John Duffy will attend to help referee the event. Spectators can also enjoy a raffle, tombola and fun games.

The gym has also appealed for anyone who has left over chocolate and alcohol from Christmas to donate them towards the tombola. They have also asked people to bring in prizes for the raffle, with a box being provided at the gym to put items in.

The event takes place on Saturday between 9.30am and 11am.
