Proposals have been submitted to the council by applicant Martin Dawes seeking approval for the creation of nine houses.

They would be situated on land at the junction of Kirkless Street and Ash Lane in New Springs, Aspull.

In its design and access statement on behalf of the applicant, agent PAB Architects Ltd, said: “The proposal will consist of the construction of nine three-bedroomed, two storey homes, consisting of eight semi-detached and one detached.

“The dwellings will be on a site that covers 0.17 hectares of vacant site.

“The proposed site access will be gained from the existing street frontage.”

The homes will include car parking.

The site is bounded by an existing residential care home to the north, a new housing development to the east and existing housing to the west, and is in easy reach of the M61. PAB Architects said: “There will be edicated car parking spaces within the curtilage of each plot. Plot five is to have two parking spaces.

“Although the site is within close proximity of existing residential dwellings an appropriate and sensitively designed scheme would not have an adverse impact on the residential amenity and living environment of these occupiers.

“On the contrary, it would have a positive effect in terms of visual amenity of the area and be much more neighbour friendly than the previous use of an open yard with the reminents of hardstanding bases.

They added: “The aesthetic design of the new properties is based on the style and materials of the surrounding buildings so they are in context with the surrounding environment.”

The application will be considered at a future meeting of Wigan Council’s planning committee at a date yet to be arranged.
