Lightbulb moment for firm's expansion

Festive Lights Company wants to extend its depot in Hillridge Road, Martland Park, to provide enough storage for the future.

The firm fears it may have to move out the area if it fails to secure the extra space.

Plans have been lodged to Wigan Council by applicant and general manager Stephen Alty.

Planning documents, which have been submitted as part of the application, read: “The proposal is to provide an extension to a single storey portal frame building which is a storage warehouse for the company.

“The company’s head office is in Charnock Richard, Chorley. The existing floor area is approximately some 2,250m sq. The site is situated with in Martland Business Park, The site is surrounded with other larger and smaller units with various usage.”

Documents said there is a section of flat green land at the back of the building which is big enough to accomodate the proposed extension, with all services being available on site.

The application added: “The proposal is to extend as indicated to provide enough storage for the future with-out the need to seek out alternative locations outside the area.”

Although the name of Festive Lights suggests it may cater for just Christmas, they are also specialists in feel good lighting for the home and garden. They also specialise in lighting for weddings and other events all year round.

After opening its first festive lights store in 1999, it expanded its business in 2002 and offered its products to wholesalers, garden centres and hardware store markets.

And over the last 15 years, it has become a recognised name within the lighting industry.

It continues to supply companies across the UK and internationally with retail lighting and bespoke products for a whole manner of applications.

Due to the demand for their products, the Festive Lights online store was launched in 2004 and continues to be popular to this day.

The company also gifted the rainbow-coloured Tree of Hope in the grounds of Wigan Infirmary which celebrates NHS workers.
