Man raises alarm after clothes catch fire in bedroom

A bedroom filled with smoke when a pile of clothes left next to a lamp caught on fire.

The clothing was placed on a bedroom cabinet, touching a bulb in the lamp, at a house on St John's Road in Mosley Common.

It set alight at 7.05pm on Monday and a man in the house was alerted by smoke alarms.

He shut the bedroom door to contain the fire, left the property and called the fire service.

Crews from Atherton fire station tackled the blaze using breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a fan to clear the smoke.

The clothes were destroyed and the bedroom was heavily smoke-logged.
