It is part of the chain's £1.3bn investment plans across the country in 2021 and 2022.

The store has created around 40 new jobs for the area and will feature a bakery, parking for cars and bikes and electrical vehicle charging points and customer toilets.

Additionally, surplus food from the store and customer donations will also be provided to a number of charities.

Beehive Community Centre, which runs a café providing nourishing food to the community, and charity RCCG, which offers welfare and social support for people in need, will both benefit from donations from the supermarket.

The food donations are delivered through Lidl’s Feed it Back scheme, in partnership with Neighbourly. It connects stores across the country with local charities, food-banks, community cafes and kitchens, so that food surplus goes to good use.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Nick Harvey, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing our new store to Parr Bridge. It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we are proud to serve the local community at this time.”

In line with the government's Covid-19 guidance, the wearing of face coverings in supermarkets remains mandatory across England.

Lidl also operates a range of social distancing measures to help maintain a safe environment for both colleagues and customers.

Measures such as floor markings continue to be implemented across stores, reminding customers of the importance of maintaining a two-metre distance.

Other measures in place include cleaning stations at entrances, hand sanitiser, disinfectant spray and wipes for customers to use on their trolleys and baskets, protective screens at checkouts, as well as visors and face coverings made available for colleagues to wear.

In addition, customers are encouraged to pay by contactless payment where possible.
