Warning to parents as children play out during coronavirus pandemic

Officers have warned parents to make sure their kids are at home after children continued playing outside during the coronavirus pandemic.

The youths were playing together at Lowton High playing fields today (March 28) despite being ordered to stay home by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an address to the nation on Monday.

People were told during the speech that they could only leave home to get buy essential supplies, to exercise once a day, for medical visits or to travel to and from work if they are a key worker.

These extraordinary "lockdown" measures are to try and contain the spread of Covid-19 and take pressure off of the NHS.

However, officers at GMP Leigh, Atherton and Hindley received reports of people including children defying the lockdown.

A spokesman said: "Report of youths getting on to playing fields at Lowton High.

"Here's the deal, if you can keep your little Ronaldos at home and obey the lockdown, we won't put your names on here when we don't find your children and waste valuable time and resources."
