It will also support the town’s economic growth by helping people get to everything Wigan has to offer, from jobs, shops and markets to restaurants and bars.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has teased that more information, including an official opening date, is to be announced within weeks, and that the station is very much on track to open soon.

Alex Cropper, head of TfGM projects group, said: “It’s been fantastic to watch the progress that’s been made on the new bus station over the last few months.

“We’re working closely with our contractor VINCI and Wigan Council to make sure that construction is moving on quickly. We’ve also had valuable support from local apprentices, who’ve played an important role in making sure project deadlines have been met.

“Once the bus station is open later this year, people will be able to wait for their bus in a lighter, brighter and much more comfortable environment. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank people in Wigan for their patience while we’re building the bus station.”
