Wigan grandma fighting for life after crash
Both Angela French and Violet-Grace Youens were taken to hospital on Friday as the incident, on Prescot Road in St Helens, sent shock-waves through the region.

Hide AdViolet-Grace died in her mother’s arms on Saturday night and her Nannie, 55-year-old Ms French, originally from Golborne, remains in a serious but stable condition in intensive care.
Officers appealed for information as CCTV images captured two men wanted in connection with the crash fleeing the scene.
Merseyside Police made two arrests in connection with the case yesterday, one on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and one on suspicion of being carried on a stolen vehicle.

Hide AdA family statement issued on Sunday said Violet-Grace’s pancreas and both kidneys had been donated to help other children “to give them a chance to lead long and happy lives”.
Two memorial funds set up in the youngster’s name to help her grieving family had raised more than £10,000 by Monday afternoon.
One of the pages reads: “We are trying to raise as much as we can to help support Bec, Glenn and all of the family at this truly traumatic time.”
Thousands have taken to social media to leave tributes.

Hide AdThe Steve Prescott bridge in St Helens was lit up in purple light last night in memory of the tragic four-year-old.
A council spokesman said: “The thoughts of everyone at St Helens Council are with Violet’s family.”
Detectives are continuing to pursue a number of lines of enquiry.
