Wigan hotel room wrecked by guests

While staying at the Britannia Hotel in Standish, Samantha Robinson tore a television off the wall, smashed a kettle and left blood and vomit over the bed and carpet.

The 26-year-old of Enstone, Skelmersdale, later launched a tirade of abuse at a hotel worker after she was refused to let them back in the room following the rampage.

Appearing at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court, Robinson pleaded guilty to criminal damage and using threatening and abusive behaviour.

The court heard how Robinson had booked the hotel room with partner Liam Elliott on Friday April 13, and the couple had gone out for the night in Wigan with friends.

When they became separated, Robinson decided to return to the hotel alone. Mr Elliott returned several hours later and an argument broke out between them in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Robinson admitted to probation workers that she “just lost it” at that moment and commenced the wrecking spree, which the hotel valued at £1000.

The court was shown images of the aftermath, with a television on the floor and bedside cabinets ripped from the wall.

The damage was discovered the following day when Robinson and Elliott, who were still checked in to the hotel, had gone out for the day.

Upon their return, hotel worker Siobhan Milner informed them they would not be allowed back in, and received a barrage of abuse from Robinson.

She threatened to slap Ms Milner in the face then raised a fist, swinging a punch at the innocent staff member which fortunately did not land.

She continued shouting at staff until officers arrived, at which point she was captured on police body cameras admitting to having caused the damage.

Although she did not recall much of the night, Robinson was “devastated” to hear about what she had done, and accepted responsibility, saying she was “very sorry for what happened.”

Justices handed her a 12-month community order with a 15-day rehabilitation requirement, and ordered her to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work. She must also pay £250 compensation to the hotel and £50 to Ms Milner.
