Civic leaders and local MPs were among the dignitaries who watched the now annual Armed Forces Day parade.

There was a deal of military hardware on display plus a high-tech simulation dome recreating the sights and sounds of the First World War so visitors inside found themselves in a virtual reality trench, allowing them to understand something of the appalling conditions soldiers faced between 1914 and 1918
