Wigan's care workers star in fun new music video

Staff from Wigan’s integrated discharge hub can be seen dancing at various locations across the borough to the sound of Get Ready by The Temptations.

They are accompanied by captions highlighting their work together to overcome any obstacles to patients being discharged from hospital as soon as possible.

The video was originally made for an NHS Improvement event named North’s Got Talent to showcase best practice in the health service.

It proved to be a success, helping the team win the final and gaining hundreds of views after it was posted on YouTube.

Chris Broadbent, assistant director of urgent care and integrated discharge system for NHS Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “What you see on the video is the hospital teams to the community teams and how they link in to each other. It’s one team. The video is showing the staff morale too. ”

Chris, who used to be a professional singer, decided to make a video instead of the usual slideshow for the presentation.

He appears in the video and spent a day filming with various members of staff.

He said they “loved” taking part and it gave them a real boost.

Chris said: “I made the video in one day. I started at 9am and finished at 6 or 7pm. I sat one night and wrote the captions at home.

“We did a lot of travelling around the borough of Wigan, it wasn’t just on the acute site.”

Chris is continuing to show the video at presentations to healthcare professionals around the country interested in finding out more about the work in Wigan.

The hub was set up at Wigan Infirmary two years ago to bring together representatives from several organisations in one place to help to discharge patients.

He hopes more people will now find out about their work.

Chris said: “If the public watch the video, which I hope they do, I hope they see that we are trying to make a difference.

“I want the public to see the teams we have here and in the community are trying to do our best. We don’t come in to do a bad job.”
