How you can get money off your train ticket with an avocado

Virgin Trains West Coast are offering customers aged between 26 and 30 a discount on train travel - if they present an avocado at the ticket office.

The company are calling the new promotion the '#Avocard', and offering a third off fare prices to millennials who bring the vegetable along when they purchase their ticket.

This gimmicky move comes after 26-30 railcards sold out earlier this week after unprecedented demand.

Technical problems meant that many were unable to access the website before all of the available railcards were allocated.

A temporary fix

Designed to appease those who missed out on the so-called 'millennial railcard', the #Avocard promotion is only valid on Virgin Trains West Coast services between 13 and 20 March 2018.

Travellers must be aged between 26 and 30 years old to be eligible.

A £12 minimum fare applies for journeys starting between 4:30am and 10am between Monday and Friday, excluding Advance Fares.

The small print

The #Avocard does not incorporate a photograph, but holders must also carry photo ID to prove that they are the holder.

According to Virgin's terms and conditions, the #Avocard and any tickets bought with it are not transferable and must not be given, loaned, or resold to anyone else.

It all sounds like fun and games, but the company also want to firmly remind customers that "fraudulent use of #Avocard and #Avocard discounted tickets may lead to criminal prosecution."

The West Coast Main Line connects major cities including London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, and Glasgow.
