Cybersecurity firm, Tessian, has warned consumers to be particularly careful when opening emails relating to online sales, as hackers will be trying to disguise their malicious attempts to steal personal information as marketing emails.
How to stay safe
To avoid falling victim to online scams, Tessian recommends taking the following safety measures:

Hide AdCheck the email sender to make sure it’s a legitimate email address, it should typically have the name of the company or organisation it claims to be from as the domain name, or the part after the @ symbolIt’s also worth checking for obvious spelling or grammar mistakes, as well as any language which doesn’t seem like the type used by a large company in an official emailIf you do receive messages from unknown senders, don’t click on or open any links, or attachments, in the emailAnother sign that an email might be fraudulent is if it urges you to respond urgently or before a set deadline - you should ignore these kinds of emailsAnd, as with anything else, if a deal that you receive over email seems too good to be true, it likely is
