Standish come up just short in the sun against Ingol with Freckelton

Standish firsts suffered a disappointing defeat to Ingol with Freckelton on a warm day at Green Lane.

After choosing to bat on a good surface, Standish lost Dave in the first over before Usi set about setting a platform with Zee, who was fit enough to return to an opening slot.

Both combined watchfulness with efficiency against anything erring in line or length, though Usi picked out point when he was just threatening to get going.

Captain Mitch strode in, but it was a repeat dose for Standish - shortly after depositing a dominant six, he picked out mid off to leave the score 75-3.

The middle order failed to fire, and once Zee departed for a welcome 61, it was left to the lower order to get them up to a total of 185 that it was felt was defendable.

Short of a few bowling options, Standish didn't look like they were going to miss them as Jami and Harrison were excellent with the new ball.

However, once Standish old boy Rajith was joined by Smith, they found the going tougher.

While keeping a lid on the runs, the required rate never climbed much above five.

Both set batters fell for 37, but Vamsi made the most of an early escape to lead his side home with an aggressive 45 not out.

In a tight division, Standish have now lost two games that they had in their grasp, and should look to bounce back knowing that if they control the basics they can get ourselves a few wins to help them up the table.

Over at Hoghton, Standish seconds bowled out their hosts for just 80.

After early wickets for Alex, Jacob proved too hot to handle, picking up four wickets.

Jithin was excellent with 3-8 from 7 overs, and there was a wicket for debutant Ash as they felt good at the interval.

Sadly, the pitch was as tough for them to bat on as it had been for their opponents, and only Rhys and Jithin made double figures as Walli Ahmed ripped through the batting order for seven wickets and they fell 23 short.
