Academy product becomes latest man to commit his future to Wigan Athletic
Chris Sze signalled his determination to 'repay everyone for their support' after penning a 12-month contract extension with Wigan Athletic.
The 22-year-old forward, who has been with Latics for almost a decade, spent much of last season on loan at non-league Southport.

But he was one of nine out-of-contract players offered fresh terms by Gary Caldwell at the end of last term, and he believes he is at 'the perfect place' to show what he can do.
"I’m really happy to extend my stay at the football club," said Sze, whose attempts to nail down a regular spot at Latics have been hampered by injuries and off-field issues.
"It’s been my home for almost a decade, and I believe it's the perfect place for me to continue to grow and develop as both a person and a footballer.
"The club has always shown a lot of faith in me, and I’m really determined to repay everyone for their support.
"The gaffer’s been brilliant with me since he came back to the football club, and I feel like he’s someone who can bring the best out of me.
"I had a really positive loan spell at Southport last season - scoring 12 goals in 23 games - which has given me a lot of confidence.
"Now it's all about using it as a platform to kick on in a Wigan Athletic shirt this season. We are all excited for the season to start, and hopefully it can be a successful one."
Academy product Sze was handed his senior debut by Leam Richardson against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup in 2021/22.
He scored his first senior goal later that season against Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy, and was named the Michael Millett Academy Player of the Year at the end of the campaign.
Sze made 24 appearances under Shaun Maloney in 2023/24, and netted his maiden league goal at Port Vale.
He played 16 times in the following campaign, with the highlight being a goal off the bench at Charlton Athletic in Ryan Lowe's first game in charge in March 2025.
However, he soon fell off the radar, resulting in his move to Southport, but he is highly rated by Caldwell and his staff, who believe he can compete for a first-team spot next season.
