Admin hoping for swift end to Wigan Athletic saga

Administrator Gerald Krasner believes the light at the end of the Wigan Athletic takeover tunnel could well be in sight.

The latest bid from the Spanish investors has been submitted to the EFL - without the Garrido brothers, and with Felipe Moreno underpinning all of the investment.

And with the Leganes owner having already passed the Owners and Directors Test, Krasner sees no reason the latest bid shouldn't get the green light.

"It's not a revised bid, it's just the funding that's been revised," he told the Wigan Post.

"The money in question is the same as before.

"It's just that the person who's dropped out, their funding has had to be replaced from approved sources.

"The situation is we have a bidder, and we are happy they have the necessary funds.

"But every time we answer all the questions, we get more questions to answer.

"The last thing I want to do at this delicate stage is upset anyone at the EFL.

"Of course we acknowledge the process, and how much other stuff they've got going on at the moment.

"Wigan obviously aren't the only problem they've got on their plate, and we have to take this into account."

When asked about a possible timescale, Krasner is hoping sooner rather than later.

"If the EFL could transfer the share today, there's no reason we couldn't be out of the door tomorrow," he said.

"I don't see why not, once we get permission, contracts have already been completed, and everything's been agreed.

"The only thing we're waiting on now is approval and we can get moving."

Krasner also rejected the notion any of the rival bidders - who have come forward since the Spanish were granted exclusivity - could possibly upset the applecart.

"All I'd say is there seems to be a lot of people who don't understand what an NDA is," he added.

"And there's nothing we can do in any case, because we've got exclusivity here.

"If we withdraw the exclusivity, the Spanish would walk - and then you'd have around seven groups who all tell me they want to buy the club...until I tell them to open their cheque book!

"It's just people who have had their chance, now coming back and trying to get it on the cheap.

"The Spanish were the only people who gave us non-returnable money up front.

"Others wanted to discuss it with us, but they didn't want to put any money forward.

"We can all talk a good talk...but it's only a cheque book that makes you listen."
