'All I want for Christmas is takeover direction' - Wigan Athletic chief

Fans have been anxiously waiting to hear if the resubmitted Spanish bid, spearheaded by the Leganes owner Felipe Moreno, will get the green light.

Senior sources insist there are no stumbling blocks, with the lengthy delay being put down to the exhaustive legal process, as officials and lawyers wade through documents to try and secure the transfer.

And it is hoped the sale of the club could be confirmed in the next few days – raising the prospect of Latics being under new ownership by Christmas Day.

"I think it would be the perfect Christmas present for all Wigan Athletic fans, and everybody connected to the club, if we were to get taken over, and finally get some direction about where we're going to go," admitted acting manager Richardson.

"So many people have dug in deep - all the staff who've remained, all the supporters who have donated to keep the club going - if we could get a solid decision going forward, everyone can sit back and reflect on a real achievement."

Latics have been in administration since the start of July.

Administrators reached an agreement on September 30 with a ‘preferred bidder from Spain’ to sell the League One outfit.

But the bid had to be resubmitted as Jose Miguel Garrido Cristo didn’t pass the EFL’s ‘Owners and Directors Test’.

The proposal was subsequently changed, with Moreno underpinning all of the investment.
