In-form Wigan Athletic are ‘enjoying their football’ and embracing the challenge of staying in the Championship.

That’s the message from Nathan Byrne, who says the team is playing with a collective smile on its face thanks to a remarkable upturn in fortunes.

“We’re delighted with the way it’s going, we’re flying, and we’re enjoying our football,” Byrne told the Wigan Observer.

“The Championship is probably up there with the best in the world in terms of entertainment.

“Every team is competitive, every game is competitive. You don’t get teams running away with it, or teams getting cut adrift at the bottom.

“Any team can beat any other – we showed that at West Brom on Saturday.

“And with three games in a week, your situation can change massively – as we proved last week.

“Now we’re out of the bottom three, we don’t want to be looking back, we want to be looking up the table.

“Hopefully the week we’ve had will give us even more confidence to be able to kick on.”

Latics can put even more distance between themselves and the bottom three this weekend with rock-bottom Luton – who won the corresponding fixture at Kenilworth Road in December – visiting the DW.

“The boys know how massive the Luton game is,” Byrne added. “And we’ll be giving it 100 per cent."
