Anxious wait over Wigan Athletic ace after head knock

Leam Richardson is desperately hoping Wigan Athletic's latest setback against Portsmouth hasn't been exacerbated by the loss of star striker Calllum Lang for a chunk of the run-in.

Latics went down 1-0 at the DW Stadium to remain second-bottom of League One - still two points adrift of safety - but with only seven matches now to go.

To rub salt into the wounds, a groggy Lang had to be helped off with eight minutes remaining after being cluttered on the near side by Sean Raggett, who suffered a suspected fractured cheekbone.

Lang will now be assessed by the medical staff, with a massive question mark hanging over him if concussion is confirmed.

"We're not sure yet, he went straight in with the medical team," revealed Richardson.

"It's no secret, we are threadbare throughout the squad, at the moment.

"And if it is a concussion, he's obviously going to miss Doncaster on Saturday...and possibly more games after that.

"He's clearly a massive player for us, he does such a great job, wherever he's asked to play for the team.

"He put in a great shift out wide for 70 minutes or so, we switched him inside, and then straight away he's having to come off the pitch.

"Hopefully he's okay - and obviously first and foremost it's his personal welfare we're worried about."
