Anxious wait over Wigan Athletic duo

Wigan Athletic are waiting to learn if Gavin Massey's injury nightmare is back to ruin an otherwise positive week for the club.

Having seen a takeover agreed with the Bahrain-based consortium, Latics moved out of the League One relegation zone thanks to a 1-1 draw at Wimbledon.

But the loss of Massey at the end of the first half to a hamstring injury has left the management keeping their fingers crossed he was withdrawn in time to prevent another lengthy lay-off.

"We're not so sure about Gavin yet, he's obviously felt his hamstring," revealed boss Leam Richardson.

"Gavin's obviously very cautious about his body, after all the injuries he's had this season.

"And I don't think at this stage of the year we can afford to risk anybody.

"As soon as we felt there was a problem, we had to get him off the field, and we'll see how he is."

Richardson also delivered an update on forward Callum Lang who was left out of the squad altogether.

"Callum felt something last Tuesday (at Plymouth), with his groin, and he's still carrying that," added Richardson.

"Rather than risk him for 60 minutes, or whatever it is, and risk losing him for six weeks, it would have been foolish to have taken a chance.

"We assessed the risk/reward and fingers crossed he'll be back sooner rather than later."
