Despite a much-improved display, Latics couldn't quite make the most of the opportunities that came their way.

And they paid a high price when Blackpool came them cold within two minutes of the restart, when Sullay Kaikai grabbed what proved to the only goal.

Scot;and Under-21 striker Kyle Joseph was excellent on is full debut, and fired against a post in the first half after a fine turn.

Joseph also forced a good save from Pool goalkeeper Chris Maxwell, who was fortunate Joe Garner headed another chance straight at him.

At the other end, CJ Hamilton flicked the top of the bar just before half-time, with Jamie Jones denying Gary Madine a second goal late on.
