Call to make things clearer for Wigan Athletic and Co

Wigan Athletic and the other 23 Championship clubs were last night involved in a conference call to try to plot the way forward as the coronavirus situation worsens.

And the situation should become clearer later today after the English Football League hold their latest meeting board meeting.

With all matches postponed until April 3, there’s at least some breathing space to put heads together to find an acceptable plan.

But with a return to action on that weekend looking increasingly less likely, clubs up and down the pyramid have been proposing their own suggestions on how best to proceed.

Predictably, those clubs nearer the top of the Championship – and with the best chance of winning promotion – are understood to be desperate to finish the season no matter when that would be.

But it remains to be seen whether those further down the ladder would support that motion, especially those clubs – including Latics – who are still involved in the relegation dogfight.
