Clean sheets are Bogdan's priority

Adam Bogdan wants more of the same from Wigan Athletic as they prepare to welcome Birmingham City to the DW Stadium tonight.

Latics got their season up and running at the weekend with a convincing 3-0 victory over Blackburn in their opening home game.

It was the perfect way to bounce back from back-to-back defeats in the opening two matches, at Bristol City in the league and then Oldham in the League Cup.

And Bogdan is targeting three more points – and another clean sheet – to cement Wigan’s position in the top half of the Championship.

“Starting the season with two defeats is obviously not ideal,” he told the Evening Post.

“But I think the progression in all the games has been pretty clear.

“In the first game we played well in the first half, and unfortunately we didn’t do so in the second half and couldn’t hold on for the win.

“In the second game, we played pretty well for 70 minutes, and we were unlucky with the sending-off (of Jake Buxton) which was the reason we fell short.

“But against Blackburn we played ever so well for the whole game.

“We had a bit of a rough time for the first 10 minutes of the second half, but that’s sometimes to be expected. We deserved to win.”

Latics, however, won’t have it all their own way against a Birmingham side who showed what they can do by winning at Leeds on Saturday.

“Birmingham look pretty strong this season, as they were last year,” Bogdan
said.

“It’s going to be hard for us, but it’s going to be hard for them as well.

“Travelling up on a Tuesday night is tough, and what we have to do is try to replicate the same performance as Saturday.”

Having recorded the first shut-out of his Wigan career following his summer arrival from Liverpool, Bogdan is hoping more solidity from backline can underpin another good day’s
work.

“Clean sheets are always a team effort, but Saturday was even more so,” he added.

“We kept the ball really well, and they didn’t have more than a couple of shots on targe. It was good.”
