The 22-year-old missed Tuesday night's 1-0 victory at Northampton, after taking a heavy knock at the weekend against Wimbledon.

And Latics boss Leam Richardson delivered a gloomy verdict in his post-match press conference.

"It's disappointing news with Tom," Richardson revealed.

"He got a bang at the weekend, he's been for a few scans which have all come back negative.

"He's now going to see a surgeon, and might be having an operation.

"We're waiting for confirmation on that, but that might be Tom for the rest of the season."

Scotland Under-19 international Luke Robinson deputised for Pearce at Northampton, and impressed on his full league debut.
