The 22-year-old former Leeds man has missed the last couple of games with a groin strain he picked up in training last week.

But assuming he suffers no after-effects from returning to training at Christopher Park, he's in line for a recall.

However, the news is less positive regarding midfielder Dan Gardner, who will definitely miss the Plymouth game because of an ankle strain.

Gardner’s absence in midweek against Peterborough allowed a swift debut for new-boy Matty Palmer, who showed some nice touches in the engine room.

Palmer’s arrival completed the Latics squad, which is capped at 23 until the club exits administration.

The situation was underlined with boss John Sheridan’s substitutions in midweek, with Chris Merrie, Ollie Crankshaw and Thelo Aasgaard having four league starts to their name.

“You look at the amount of young players we again had on the bench, and we are short there,” acknowledged Sheridan.

“But I’m not looking for any excuses, and I’ll try not to if I can help it.

“I’ve said before, if we can keep our 12-13-14 best players fit, we should be winning games at this level.”
