The 20-year-old will be entering his sixth consecutive season with Latics, having re-joined the club at the age of 15 following an initial spell in the Centre of Excellence.

After a breakthrough into the first team during Latics’ Sky Bet League One title winning campaign last season (having made his debut in 2014-15), the Aspull-born youngster went on to be named Young Player of the Season, with his first ever professional goal for the club against Fleetwood Town also voted as Goal of the Season by Wigan Athletic supporters.

Flores endured a mixed campaign thereafter following his red card in the 1-1 draw away at Oldham Athletic, with a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery keeping him out of action for the rest of the campaign, but Latics boss Gary Caldwell said the midfielder has an excellent opportunity ahead of him in 2016-17.

“On the ball his quality is undoubted, he’s a fantastic technical footballer and he worked extremely hard on his fitness last season to get into the team.

“He has to continue to work on his fitness for the new season, it’s a massive part of football now especially in midfield.

“He earned himself some great moments, the goal against Fleetwood being the obvious highlight and he had some difficult times throughout the season too with the red card against Oldham and the injuries he suffered, but as a young player you’re always going to get that and he has to learn.”
