Hide AdHe is a free agent after being released at the end of last season, and looks to be a like-for-like replacement for Rarmani Edmonds-Green, who was sent back to Huddersfield on Wednesday, midway through his season-long loan.
Crucially, Blackett would not be taking up a loan spot, with Latics only able to field a maximum of five in any matchday squad.
Latics have already signed former Tottenham, Liverpool and England defender Steven Caulker and Arsenal youngster Miguel Azeez, both until the end of the campaign.
