Goal hero reacts to Wigan Athletic's latest win

'Okay, we don’t mind that at all!' - Joe Dodoo's happy-go-lucky reaction to the freakish goal that set Wigan Athletic on their way to a deserved victory over Crewe at the DW.

In trying to charge down a 15th-minute Tom Lowery clearance, Dodoo sent the ball spinning wickedly towards the Alex goal, over the head of keeper Will Jaaskelainen, and into the back of the net.

Lee Evans doubled the lead in the final quarter from the penalty spot, and Dodoo admits it was another great day to be a 'Tic.

“It was really good," he said. "We did our homework on them as they like to play out from the back.

"We came out on the front foot and knew we had to start fast.

“Our game-plan was to get after them straight away and press high.

"It’s nice to get the three points by executing the game plan.

“As a striker, you’re always looking for any luck inside the box, so when he hit it against my foot and it went in, I was like: ‘Okay, we don’t mind that at all!'

“In the end, we needed the three points. It doesn’t matter how the ball goes in as long as we get the goals and keep a clean sheet. That’s the most important thing.”

Latics are now four points clear of the drop zone with four matches remaining - the first of which comes on Tuesday night at Shrewsbury.

And despite accruing nine points in the space of a week, Dodoo isn't counting any chickens just yet.

“The job isn’t done," he added. "We might have won three on the bounce, but the job isn’t done.

“We need to go with the mentality to win all the games and keep the fate on our side. It’s in our control now and that’s what we wanted.

“We know we have to go into every game, do the best we can and continue to churn out these performances.”
