The Northern Ireland hitman has been on fire since the turn of the year, banging in six goals in just four starts to help Latics move up to third place in League One.

It would have been a magnificent seven had Grigg not missed a second penalty in the 2-0 victory at Sheffield United on Saturday.

But the 24-year-old is confident the next goal is only just around the corner, given the fine form both he and his club are showing.

“It’s happening for me at the moment,” he told the Evening Post.

“We’re playing really well as a side, we’re creating chances, and for a striker like myself that’s great.

“I’m always confident that if the chances come along I’ll put them away – and the last month has been fantastic.

“For whatever reason I wasn’t firing on all cylinders at the start of the season.

“Thankfully it’s happening for me now, and it’s come at a good stage of the season as well.

“That’s gone for the team as well. We have hit form at the right time. We’re flying.”

Grigg is aiming for a hat-trick of promotions from League One, having reached the Championship with first Brentford and then MK Dons in the last two seasons.

“That’s what I came here to do, that’s why I signed for the club,” he added.

“Given the form we’re showing at the moment, there’s no reason why that can’t be the case.

“You can’t see us getting beat the way we’re playing as a team, which is great.

“We just have to concentrate on ourselves at the moment and not worry about anything else.

“Everyone seems to be faltering around us, which is perfect as far as we’re concerned.

“But all we can do is keep doing what we’re doing and let the rest take care of itself.”
