Heat is on for Wigan Athletic trio!
Wigan Athletic's warm-weather training camp is under way in Spain '“ with Darron Gibson, Ross Wallace and James Perch hoping to make hay while the sun shines.
The veteran trio, all free agents, featured in Saturday’s opening pre-season friendly at Tranmere, which Latics won 2-1.
They’d impressed the Latics management with their effort and application at Euxton during pre-season training, which earned them a place on the plane to La Cala.
And with less than three weeks until the start of the Championship season, all will be aware permanent deals are there to be won.
“They’re all good players, with great experience, everyone knows them,” acknowledged first-team coach Anthony Barry.
“They’ve all got something we might possibly lack at this level, we’re having a look at them, and we’ll see how it goes.
“They’ve been a credit to themselves so far, they’ve come to Spain with us to have another look at each other, and hopefully things will go well.”
One man who didn’t fly over to Spain with the rest of the group is Terell Thomas, who has joined League One outfit AFC Wimbledon for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old, who joined Latics last summer from Charlton, made only three league appearances – all off the bench – as well as five starts in the cups.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with National League side Sutton United.
