Former Town manager Lee Bignell will be staying on as Hurst’s assistant.

“I am thoroughly delighted to bring in Glynn, but it was equally important for Lee to be part of our plans, too,” said Hayes. “Lee has been key to our progression over the last three years.

“Glynn is someone I have watched and followed as a player to now, as an extremely highly-rated and respected young manager. I would also like to thank Marine for their co-operation with the appointment.”

Hurst, who brings Neil Hanson as his head of football, added: “We are delighted to be given this opportunity and we are fortunate to inherit a squad that has set the benchmark for the future.”

Hurst also played north of the border for Ayr United, with whom he established a prolific partnership with former Wigan Athletic winger Gary Teale.
