Last season’s League One golden boot winner hasn’t trained since receiving a kick to the ankle in the final pre-season friendly against Fleetwood a week ago.

And boss Gary Caldwell admits he’s having to consider the strong possibility Grigg will be sidelined for the trip to Ashton Gate.

“Will’s still not trained yet,” Caldwell told the Evening Post.

“He’s had a kick and a twist to the ankle, he’s still in the treatment room, and we’ll have to see how he is.”

Craig Davies – the only other senior striker in the squad – has also been in the wars pre-season, handing Caldwell has his first major selection problem of the season.

Midfielder Nick Powell, who can also play up front, missed the Fleetwood game with a groin problem picked up three days earlier at Oldham.

There is better news at least concerning Stephen Warnock, who returned to training on Tuesday after recovering from a calf injury.

“Stephen’s back and ready to go,” confirmed Caldwell.

The Latics boss also revealed Emyr Huws is continuing to work with the fitnesss coaches, having missed the last few pre-season friendlies.
