Wigan Athletic’s visit to Charlton on Saturday is a huge encounter at the bottom of the table with just two games remaining in the Championship.

Paul Cook has done an incredible job, especially recently, to steer the Latics up to 13th despite the off-field turmoil, they would still be outside the bottom three on goal difference if you take the possible 12 point deduction into account.

In the last 13 games the only defeat has been to high-flying Brentford and that arrived after the news the club were being put in administration.

But what a way to respond, seven points from three games, including an 8-0 bodying of Hull City during the week. Remarkably the goals scored by Brentford were the only ones given up by the Wigan defence in 11 matches.

It is no surprise to see many of the club's stars, as well as manager Cook, linked with moves elsewhere.

A win at the Valley could prove absolutely massive in the relegation battle, and Sky Sports pundit David Prutton reckons it could be a comfortable afternoon for the Latics, predicting a 3-1 win.

“Charlton were so near to a win at Birmingham on Wednesday that would have surely have seen them just about safe," he said. “Now, however, they are just two points clear and one spot above the drop zone. From that position anything can still happen.

"What can we say about Wigan that hasn't been said since Tuesday? What a wonderful win it was for them and they've got a real chance of giving themselves a big enough gap so that they don't have to worry on the final day. With the form they're in, I can't see past them getting the win at The Valley.”
