Jackson: We'll be ready for changes

Latics have one more season of parachute payments – a legacy of their eight-year Premier League adventure – after which their financial situation will ‘significantly change’, according to the CEO.

That will mean an instant shortfall of at least £10million – a jaw-dropping figure in anyone’s book.

But Jackson says that doesn’t put any added pressure on manager Gary Caldwell and the players as they attempt to acclimatise to life back in the second tier.

He also confirmed there wouldn’t be a noticeable influx of cash following promotion back to the Championship.

“As we’re still under the parachute payments, our finances won’t be affected significantly by the promotion,” Jackson told the Evening Post.

“We will receive a little bit more from the Football League, but it’s the season after when we will stop receiving parachute payments that our income will significantly change.

“We have to make sure we’re prepared for that, and we will be.

“As long as we’re in the Championship, there will be a decrease of around £10million – which is obviously quite significant.

“We have to prepare for that, we’ve had to plan for it, and we’ve had to drive all our income streams to reduce that deficit.

“We’ll look at that when the time is right, and see which division we’re in.

“As it stands at the moment we’re in the Championship, so we’ll still benefit from our last year of parachute payments which is enhanced by the new broadcasting deal.”
