Is John Sheridan the man for Wigan Athletic?
Former Oldham and Chesterfield manager John Sheridan is on the verge of answering Wigan Athletic's managerial SOS.
And the 55-year-old could even be in the technical area in time for Sunday's League One opener at Ipswich Town.
Sheridan - whose brother, Darren, played for Latics between 1999 and 2001 - is currently with League of Ireland outfit Waterford.
And while he's due to remain in position for Friday night's clash against Bohemians, that is expected to be his farewell game in charge.
Sheridan only moved to Waterford in late July, covering a seven-match tenure.
It's understood his role at Wigan would be alongside, rather than instead of, Leam Richardson, who would be able to concentrate on the coaching aspect of the job.
Richardson is expected to give an update on the situation at his Friday afternoon press conference.
Ex-Leeds and Blackpool manager Simon Grayson was sounded out about joining Wigan earlier in the week, but no agreement was reached.
